Improper tariff classifications and custom’s documentation can cause shipments to be delayed at the border. It is expected HS 2012 will create more detained shipments and supply chain interruptions compared to the last reform of 2007 for three reasons:

  1. Trade volume has nearly doubled in the past five years
  2. Computer automation is far more prevalent today compared to 2007
  3. Government regulations and oversight enforcement have increased dramatically

Government agencies across the world, particularly in the United States and Europe, have instituted more trade laws in the past 10 years than they have in the preceding hundred

 CUSTOMS Info website: http://www.customsinfo.com
 Global Data Mining website: http://www.gdmllc.com

“This Reform will impact an enormous amount of business data, systems and processes, and strain already limited global trade resources. It includes more than 200 amendments that trigger a massive chain reaction of country level amendments that trigger an even more massive chain reaction of changes to enterprise‐wide business systems. If not managed successfully, it will derail supply chains, and threaten 2012 profit.” said Matt Gersper, president and founder of Global Data Mining and co-owner of CUSTOMS Info.
